How about a floor cleaning robot that can "SEE"

How nice if a robot can “see” and think like human to clean methodically/systematically.
Wait, it’s already there in the market since year 2000 (before iRobot's Roomba in 2002 and INfinuvo/picaBot in 2003). It’s called Trilobite by Electrolux. It actually scan and map the room and clean systematically almost as close as any human would do. In fact, this mapping technology is not new. Only thing is that the cost is rather high making the finished product (Trilobite) beyond most people’s budget ( RM7k to RM10K in Malaysia). It's a pity we hardly see them in service.

During direct interaction with consumers, we receive a lot of suggestions where some have since been implemented. We also explained that some suggestions would cost too much to be viable. Balancing functionality and cost is a delicate matter we are striving to perfect. FYI, we love those suggestions. Thank you very much.

Btw, what do you think is a Trilobite's acceptable price level?

  1. wow, that would be a great step forward but RM7k is really too much.
i use robots now. i don't mind paying RM4k if it is that smart.

  2. Below 3.5k. better still can recognise different rooms and clean one by one.
Roomba use virtual wall but its too troublesome to keep changing battery. i keep the virtual wall in the storeroom now.

  3. actually i seen my friend's trilobite last year. it's movement is quite smart. but compare with my picabot, the cleaning is almost the same. so i'm not sure if i want to choose the trilobite even if it cost only RM4,000 since i only want the result and not care how it clean. I will seriously consider if it is below RM3,000.
